theravenboy: (somber Bran)

Bran Davies returns to Clwyd Farm on a chill, damp night in January 1979, no more than a moment after he left. Owen Davies notes the golden harp in his son's arms and the brass horn at his belt, and the new line furrowed permanently into Bran's brow.

"You went to his kingdom." Owen's high Welsh lilt makes the sentence a statement, not a question.

"Yes," says Bran. "I came home."

They do not need many words, these two; when Owen nods shortly and goes to start the teapot, they have said everything they will ever say about the matter.

A few days later, after he has rested, Bran takes the harp in his arms and begins to play. After all, he promised to come to Milliways and tell Mordred when he returned.

But Bran has forgotten the melody which takes him to the bar, and when he runs his fingers along the strings, there is no power, only music.

Bran writes to Will, asking him to take a message to Mordred, and begins packing for the spring term in Cardiff.
